Building Margin into the Schedule
Today was a teaching day with some light admin. Not a lot of household things got done other than kid and dog drop offs.
At the beginning of this year, I opened up my schedule to include daytime availability for homeschooling families (which is getting more popular in the US). So, I have 2 homeschooled students during the day on Thursdays. This is followed by an evening of teaching.
Today I also had a makeup lesson. The spring semester has been brutal for sickness, both for my students and my family. I’ve learned that I need to bake in empty space in my schedule for makeup lessons (that obviously overlaps with the times the community arts center is open!). My tendency (with everything) is to optimize, optimize, optimize, leaving no margin in my schedule or energy commitments; I’m lucky my teaching schedule did not fill up completely as I’d hoped, or I’d have to open up a few other evenings to accommodate everyone.
What: Six lessons, including one voice and five piano students, one of which was a makeup lesson.
Why: Easiest music income to come by in this area. And I do love teaching!

Time Investment: 1.5 daytime hours + 2.5 evening hours for a total of 4 hours.
What: Schedule checking and attendance admin.
Why: Pretty self explanatory.
